Patchwork celebrates May 4—May the 4th be with you!—with Imagine New Worlds, a brand new storytelling showcase, @ 3PM at the Rotunda, 4014 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA.
Join Patchwork for Imagine New Worlds on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 3 PM EST in the heart of Philadelphia at the historic Rotunda, located at 4014 Walnut Street. This captivating live event promises an immersive journey into uncharted territories, igniting the imagination of audiences.
Admission is free and open to all, with donations graciously accepted. Recommended for mature audiences aged 16 and above, this spellbinding experience will last approximately 60 minutes, with light refreshments available to enhance your enjoyment.
Prepare to be spellbound by a diverse lineup of storytellers, each offering their unique perspectives and narratives. From the metaphorical insights of Gabriel Angrand and the heartfelt song of Linda Battiste & Carla Mariana (Justice Seekers) to the thought-provoking and often disarming and uplifting works of Blinky Comix, Denise McCormack, Christina Sturgis, and Qwaunna Thurman, this event promises to be an unforgettable celebration of storytelling.
Denise McCormack, president of Patchwork and esteemed host of the show, shares her excitement: "This program is the culmination of a vibrant call to local talent, all eager to share their distinct storytelling prowess at the beloved Rotunda. Gabriel (AVG) is a Haitian pastor's kid born in Massachusetts, raised in Ohio & now living in Philly.
He's been writing poetry since the 4th grade and uses this medium to wrestle with faith, spirituality, romance, and social issues.
With 2 books and publication in Our Hope Remains, he hopes to continue using poetry and Open Mic spaces to minister to young people, especially.
Linda Battiste, and Carla Mariani are Justice Seekers—a heart centered musical duo that lends their voices of compassion for all exploited and oppressed beings.
Together, they have written and produced a song and music video which imagines a post animal use world and endeavors to share it to bring this central theme to audiences everywhere.
Denise McCormack, M.Ed., is a multifaceted storyteller who is deeply committed to sharing the history, benefits, and practices of storytelling in a broad spectrum of applications. With a keen eye for detail and a passion for storytelling, she crafts narratives that resonate deeply with audiences.
Among her many roles, McCormack is president of the Patchwork Storytelling Guild; performance artist; storytelling/speaking coach; creative and web designer; and video specialist.

Qway Thurman is a West Philadelphia native who grew up with a love for music in all its forms. The middle of three, his older brother was a self-made producer that encouraged him to rap on the instrumentals he made since the age of seven.
A recent graduate from Drexel University, majoring in Entertainment Arts, and Management, he is a skilled videographer with hopes of doing all the things that he loves from filmmaking, producing, writing, rapping, and just being creative.
Chris Sturgis is graduate of Temple University with a degree in Communications and two decades of professional experience as a newspaper reporter in Philadelphia, upstate New York and New Jersey. She is the editor of her church newsletter and has dabbled in many art forms, including music, photography, painting, writing and theater. She blogs at CLSreal.com.
Isami Hashiguchi Quick is a Philadelphia Folklorist following and documenting phenomena of the area—Mermaids who are documented in a painting by Hieronymus Bocsh in Fishtown (as was the route from the painting to the dealer)- to actual sightings of dinosaurs.

Patchwork Storytelling Guild is a member-supported 501c3 non-profit organization serving the needs of the Philadelphia Metro area, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, the Delaware Valley, and beyond.
Its mission is to provide a forum for storytellers and to promote the art of storytelling through community outreach related to the practice, performance, and value of storytelling. Patchwork offers: monthly story swaps, coaching sessions, performance opportunities... and more.
The Rotunda, located in Philadelphia, PA, is a community-gathering place that is fueled by the belief that art is a catalyst for social change and that the arts can lead to the formation of meaningful partnerships between our parent organization the University of Pennsylvania, and surrounding neighborhoods. Over 300 events are offered every year, including live music, film, spoken word, theater, art, dance, education, youth programs, arts incubation, and various experimental genres. As an alcohol-free venue, The Rotunda provides a critical social alternative for all ages. At its core, The Rotunda is a shared space fostering learning, enrichment, and community support while empowering the public to present, produce, and promote their work.
